1. Product Overview
Nomay Red PET High Temperature Tape combines red polyester film with single-sided silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive for powder coating, selected thermal processes and visible masking identification.
Common purchasing names include red polyester masking tape, red powder coating tape and high-visibility process protection tape.
The red appearance helps operators locate masked areas and inspect placement or removal against suitable backgrounds. It supports process checks but does not replace inspection procedures.
2. Product Construction
Backing: Red heat-resistant PET polyester film.
Adhesive: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Adhesive side: Single-sided.
Color options: Bright red, deep red or translucent red, subject to model confirmation.
Formats: Self-wound rolls, liner-backed rolls, strips, discs, arrows and custom die-cut masks.
Confirm the film, adhesive coating and liner for the selected construction. Do not assume a particular pigment, primer or surface-treatment arrangement from color alone.
Flat die-cut discs can cover suitable hole openings. They are not molded plugs for sealing deep bores or internal threads.
3. Available Specifications
For the confirmed colored PET film and silicone adhesive family:
Thickness range: 0.012–0.1 mm; thicker constructions available on request.
Width range: 0.1–1250 mm.
Roll and master-roll length range: 33–3000 m.
Peel adhesion range: 5–1500 g, with test conditions to be confirmed.
Temperature resistance range: 180–220°C, matched to the selected construction and process.
Color: Red.
Confirm whether the quoted thickness refers to PET backing or finished adhesive tape. Finished thickness includes backing and adhesive, excluding any removable release liner.
The supplied peel-adhesion range uses g notation. Confirm the force-unit convention, specimen width, substrate, peel angle, test speed and dwell time before comparison.
The ranges cover available product-family options. Not every thickness, width, length and adhesion combination is available in one construction.
4. Key Features and Buyer Benefits
Visible Masking Identification
Red provides useful contrast on suitable light-colored components, helping operators identify protected areas.
Placement and Removal Checks
A clearly visible mask can help reveal missing, misplaced or unremoved pieces during defined inspection steps.
High-Temperature Process Protection
The PET and silicone adhesive construction supports compatible powder-coating and baking processes within the confirmed exposure profile.
Defined Coating Boundaries
The film supports controlled masking edges when correctly positioned and pressed onto a suitable surface.
Controlled Removal
Selected grades support one-piece removal after validated processing, helping reduce cleanup and rework.
Custom Converting
Slit rolls, discs, arrows, tabs and frames support repeatable masking and process identification.
5. Temperature and Exposure Conditions
The available temperature-resistance range is 180–220°C.
Confirm the actual component temperature, exposure time, heating cycles and removal conditions for the selected grade. An oven setting alone may not describe the temperature reached by the masked surface.
The range does not establish a universal continuous-service rating, 200°C for 24 hours or 220°C for a fixed duration.
Extended-bake requirements may be submitted for dedicated construction evaluation. A supplier's rating for another red polyester tape must not be treated as the rating of this Nomay model.
6. Powder Coating and Contact-Area Protection
Grounding and Contact Surfaces
Mask designated metal contact faces to keep coating away during the approved process. Remove the tape before making the electrical connection and verify surface cleanliness and contact performance.
The tape is a masking material, not a conductive grounding tape. Keep any contact required for electrostatic powder application or electrochemical treatment exposed according to the process design.
Battery Enclosures and Inverter Housings
Protect selected assembly interfaces, contact faces and no-coating areas. Confirm coating chemistry, curing conditions and dimensional requirements.
Automotive and Metal Components
Use rolls or die-cut masks for suitable paint boundaries and localized protection. Match adhesion to the surface finish and removal requirements.
7. Electronics and Chemical-Process Applications
PCB Process Protection
Selected constructions may protect or identify PCB areas during compatible coating or thermal operations. Confirm surface temperature, exposure time, chemistry and residue requirements.
Do not assume compatibility with a 260°C solder bath. Processes beyond the confirmed PET capability require a separately qualified construction.
Anodizing and Electroplating
Selected grades may be evaluated for masking non-treatment areas. Provide the complete pretreatment, bath chemistry, concentration, temperature, immersion time and rinsing sequence.
Heat resistance does not establish universal chemical resistance or liquid-tight edge sealing.
Abrasive Blasting
Standard PET masking tape is not specified as a blast-resistant barrier. Direct abrasive exposure requires a dedicated abrasion-resistant masking construction; red PET may serve as an identification marker outside the blast zone.
8. Color and Inspection Selection
Choose the red shade against the actual component, coating and lighting conditions.
Translucent red may assist alignment where visibility through the tape is useful. Deeper red may provide a different contrast level. Neither is automatically superior for every surface.
Machine-vision detection requires evaluation of camera type, illumination, gloss, viewing angle and recognition thresholds. Red color alone does not guarantee automatic detection.
For removal inspection, assess how powder coverage, heating and contamination affect the visibility of the remaining tape.
9. Application Procedure
Define all areas to be protected and all process contacts that must remain exposed.
Clean and dry the substrate using a compatible method. Remove oil, dust, polishing compounds and release agents.
Apply without excessive stretching. Press edges firmly and avoid channels, wrinkles or unsupported spans.
Run samples through the complete production cycle. Inspect edge lift, shrinkage, coating seepage, film integrity and adhesive transfer.
Remove at the validated temperature, angle and speed. Check that all masks are removed and the exposed surfaces meet the assembly requirements.
10. Adhesion, Removal and Construction Selection
Peel adhesion depends on the adhesive, substrate, pressure, dwell time and process exposure. Select sufficient holding for the process without creating unacceptable removal damage.
Evaluate residue after the actual heat and chemical cycle. Clean removal before processing does not establish post-process performance.
Thicker solid PET constructions may improve handling or mechanical robustness, but do not provide foam-like cushioning.
For contamination-sensitive downstream bonding or coating, define silicone-transfer limits before selection.
Optional low-static, special-liner and controlled-color versions may be requested, subject to specification and model confirmation.
11. Comparison, Handling and Storage
Red and Other Colored PET Tapes
Choose the color for contrast and the facility's process-identification system. Color alone does not establish different heat or adhesion performance.
PET and Polyimide Tape
Select according to backing material and the actual thermal process. Similar appearance does not make the materials interchangeable.
Rolls and Die-Cut Masks
Rolls suit continuous lines and variable-length masking. Liner-backed shapes support repeated geometry and controlled placement.
Store material in its original packaging in a clean, dry environment. Follow the confirmed storage conditions and shelf life, and protect adhesive surfaces and cut edges from contamination.
