Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) drill bits are fixed-cutter drilling tools that use PDC cutters—synthetic diamond tables bonded to tungsten carbide substrates—to shear rock with a continuous scraping motion.- PDC bits are among the most important technological advances in oilfield drilling tools in recent decades.- Unlike roller cone bits that crush and gouge rock, PDC bits shear formation material continuously, resulting in significantly faster rates of penetration (ROP) and longer bit life in suitable formations.
As the global PDC drill bit market reaches an estimated USD 4.78 billion in 2025 and continues to expand-, operators worldwide are increasingly turning to PDC technology to reduce drilling time, lower costs, and improve overall well economics.
Our PDC drill bits are professionally engineered to tackle diverse underground formations, each with its own unique drilling challenges. Through three key upgrades—intelligently arranged cutting structures, high-performance PDC cutters, and advanced hydraulic designs—our bits deliver superior drilling speed (ROP) and exceptional durability.
A PDC bit operates on a shearing principle. As the bit rotates, the PDC cutters—each consisting of a polycrystalline diamond table (the "diamond table") bonded to a tungsten carbide substrate—scrape across the rock face, continuously shearing away formation material.- The PDC cutters are manufactured by sintering tiny, man-made diamond crystals together under high temperature and pressure to form a dense, intergrown mass of randomly oriented crystals that can be shaped into cutting elements.
The cutting structure of a PDC bit is defined by several critical design parameters:
Cutter size, type, and quantity – Determines the cutting efficiency and durability
Cutter density – The number of cutters used in a particular bit design
Cutter placement – Strategically positioned on the bit face to ensure complete bottomhole coverage
Back rake and side rake angles – Influence cutting efficiency and bit stability
Bit profile – Affects steerability and directional control
Advanced PDC bit designs now incorporate computerized cutter placement and density based on an equal work rate per cutter, along with torque-balancing functions that consider back rake, side rake, and bit profile for optimal performance.
Our bit designs incorporate the latest global research on drill bit technology, breaking free from the limitations of traditional PDC bit theories. The result is a bit truly engineered for efficient rock-breaking and long wear, ensuring fast drilling speeds and a longer lifespan.
Modern PDC cutters feature unique geometries that improve cutting efficiency and bit durability, enabling higher ROP and increased footage to save drilling time and costs.- Advanced PDC cutter designs can simultaneously enhance wear resistance and impact toughness—two properties that are critical for deep and ultra-deep well applications where premature wear, impact fracture, and thermal degradation are common challenges.-
We use advanced cutter positioning technology for manufacturing, paired with rubber molding and sand casting processes. This guarantees precise machining—even for complex wing shapes and tricky cutter placements that traditional methods cannot handle.
Cutter density—the number of cutters used in a particular bit design—is a function of profile shape and length, as well as cutter size, type, and quantity.- Our advanced manufacturing processes ensure that every cutter is placed with micron-level precision to optimize cutting efficiency and bit balance.
By studying fluid flow through computer simulations and leveraging the latest nozzle research, we have incorporated pulsed nozzles into our PDC bits. These nozzles supercharge the hydraulic system's ability to help break rock and improve debris evacuation from the bottom of the well.
Effective hydraulics are essential for PDC bit performance because:
They clean the cutters, preventing "bit balling" (clogging with mud)
They remove cuttings from the bottom of the hole, preventing "secondary crushing" (when debris gets ground up again)
They cool the PDC cutters, extending cutter life
They enhance the rock-breaking action at the cutter-rock interface
Advanced hydraulic designs with maximized junk slot area and face volume help improve flow around the bit, keeping the bit cool and lasting longer—particularly important in high-temperature formations.-
Combining analysis software with 3D design, we have optimized the bit's hydraulic structure to enlarge the flow channels. This allows debris to escape the well bottom faster, significantly reducing secondary crushing and preventing bit balling.
When cuttings are not efficiently removed from the bit face, they can be ground up repeatedly—a phenomenon known as secondary crushing—which wastes energy, generates excess heat, and accelerates cutter wear. Our enlarged flow channels ensure that cuttings are evacuated quickly and efficiently.
We use 3D modeling and simulation to design our bits, making their structure more reasonable and ensuring they are strong enough to handle the toughest downhole conditions.
Modern bit design increasingly relies on computational drilling dynamics simulations using 3D polygonal mesh modeling software, combined with field data analysis.- This approach allows us to:
Predict bit performance under various operating parameters
Optimize the operative window (Weight on Bit and RPM) to avoid harmful vibrations
Reduce high-frequency torsional oscillations (HFTO) that can damage both the bit and the bottomhole assembly
Advanced composite cutter welding technology ensures the PDC cutters are welded securely, so they stay in place even under high stress and impact loading. This is critical for maintaining bit integrity in demanding applications such as:
Interbedded formations with varying hardness
Directional drilling with high build rates
Deep and ultra-deep wells with extreme downhole conditions
PDC bits are particularly effective at drilling shale formations—especially when used in combination with oil-based muds-—as well as sandstone, limestone, chalk, siltstone, and other sedimentary formations. Our bits deliver reliable drilling performance, superior directional control, and high build rates—even in the transition from a well's vertical to lateral section.

The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) classification system provides a standardized method for identifying and selecting drill bits. For PDC bits, the IADC code consists of three characters that describe-:
First character – Bit body type and application category
Second character – Formation hardness and drillability
Third character – Cutter size and type
Our PDC bits feature IADC codes that help operators select the right bit for their specific formation and drilling conditions.
The hole size (bit diameter) determines the connection size (pin) required:
12¼″ and 9½″ bits – 6⅝ REG connection
8½″ bits – 4½ REG connection
6½″ and 6″ bits – 3½ REG connection
4¾″ bits – 2⅞ REG connection
