The ams OSRAM TMF8701 is a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor integrated into a single modular package with an associated VCSEL. Leveraging SPAD, TDC, and histogram technology, this sensor offers direct time-of-flight measurement with high accuracy, reliably detecting the closest object. Its compact size and advanced features make it ideal for mobile phone applications, including camera autofocus (LDAF), proximity and presence detection, and supporting low-power operations for features like 3D facial recognition. The device boasts dynamic cover glass calibration, compensating for dirt on the glass, and provides distance and signal quality reporting for informed decision-making. It is Class 1 Eye Safe and designed for efficient power consumption, contributing to longer battery life.
