Food-grade propylene glycol is a diol, chemically known as 1,2-propanediol, a synthetic organic compound produced through the hydration of propylene oxide. It is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid with a slightly sweet taste and hygroscopic properties, and is miscible with water, ethanol, and other solvents.
