Aloe-emodin, also known as aloe-emodin, has the chemical formula C15H10O5, a molecular weight of 270.237, and CAS number 481-72-1. It is mainly derived from the sap of the rhizomes or leaves of plants such as Rheum palmatum, Rheum tanguticum, and Aloe vera. It is an orange needle-like crystal with a melting point of 223-224℃, soluble in hot ethanol and alkaline solutions.
Intestinal Stimulation and Laxative Effects:Aloe-emodin acts directly on the colonic mucosa, stimulating the intestinal wall nerve plexus and increasing intestinal water secretion, significantly enhancing intestinal peristalsis. It inhibits sodium ion absorption and promotes chloride ion excretion, increasing the volume of intestinal contents and thus producing a mild laxative effect.
Anti-inflammatory and Immunomodulatory Effects:This component can inhibit cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase activity, reducing the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. It can regulate macrophage and lymphocyte function, alleviating excessive immune responses and showing ameliorative effects in inflammatory models such as experimental colitis.
Antibacterial and Antitumor Activity:Aloe-emodin has inhibitory effects on common pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus, with its mechanism related to disrupting the microbial cell membrane structure. Studies show that it can induce tumor cell apoptosis and inhibit their proliferation, possibly through the regulation of cell cycle and signaling pathways.
Laxative and Gut Health Products:Pharmaceuticals or health supplements containing this ingredient as the main active ingredient for treating functional constipation, suitable for short-term relief of bowel difficulties. Strict dosage and usage frequency control are necessary to avoid long-term use leading to intestinal dependence or electrolyte imbalance.
Topical Preparations: Added to ointments for treating acne, dermatitis, or skin infections, utilizing its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to promote skin recovery. Used in scalp care products to assist in controlling seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff.
