D-ribose is a five-carbon monosaccharide with the chemical formula C5H10O5, existing in α and β isomeric forms. As a key component of ribonucleic acid (RNA) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), it plays a fundamental role in the genetic material and energy metabolism of living organisms. At room temperature, it is a white crystalline powder, readily soluble in water with a cool, sweet taste, and should be stored under dry, sealed conditions.
D-ribose participates in nucleotide, protein, and fat metabolism in the body. Industrially, it is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate in the production of nucleic acid drugs such as triazole nucleosides, and also as a food-grade sweetener in products such as candies and syrups. Its derivatives also find applications in the fields of vitamin B2 and cosmetic moisturizing and antioxidant products.
Promotes ATP regeneration and energy recovery: D-ribose is a direct substrate for the synthesis of 5-phosphoribose in the pentose phosphate pathway, accelerating the rate of ATP synthesis, especially helping to restore cellular energy levels after mitochondrial dysfunction or ischemia and hypoxia.
