Mulberry leaf extract was obtained from mulberry leaf powder processed from the first to third new leaves of mulberry branches during the late spring silkworm rearing period or before the first frost. The powder was air-dried, pulverized, and extracted with n-butanol, 90% organic solvent, and water under heating, followed by spray drying.
The mulberry leaf extract inhibited α-glucosidase activity, with the inhibition rate increasing with concentration. It also showed good inhibitory effects on the growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with MIC values of 0.86% and 1.56% against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively.
Mulberry leaf extract is an active ingredient extracted from mulberry leaves, mainly containing flavonoids, alkaloids, polysaccharides, and other substances. It has antioxidant and immune-enhancing effects. Its mechanism of action is diverse, and studies have shown that it has a certain auxiliary effect in improving symptoms related to metabolic disorders.
Chlorogenic acid and isoquercitrin in mulberry leaves have antibacterial and anti-UV damage effects. Topical application can improve problems such as acne and eczema. Some skin care products have added them as natural antioxidant ingredients.
Animal experiments have shown that mulberry leaf extract can regulate the intestinal flora structure, increase the number of beneficial bacteria (such as Bifidobacteria), inhibit the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria, and has a bidirectional regulatory effect on constipation or diarrhea.
