Product Overview
This electric combined anchor windlass and mooring winch integrates a single anchor-chain cable lifter (gypsy), a single rope storage / mooring drum and a warping end on one deck-machinery foundation. The cable lifter handles the anchor chain, while the drum manages the specified mooring rope and the warping end provides auxiliary rope handling. The combined arrangement can reduce machinery footprint and simplify deck integration where one drive package is required to perform both anchoring and mooring functions.
The supplied series covers anchor-chain diameters from 19 to 70 mm, windlass working loads from 15.3 to 208.3 kN after correction of the 70 mm entry, drum mooring pulls from 20 to 150 kN, and rope capacities up to 32.5 mm x 200 m in the provided table. Final selection must confirm anchor-chain grade, anchoring depth, anchor mass, drum rope construction, brake and clutch arrangement, electrical supply, control philosophy, foundation reactions and class requirements. For a combined windlass / mooring winch, ISO 4568:2021 applies to the anchoring function and ISO 3730:2012 is additionally relevant to the mooring-winch function.

Selection & Inquiry Guide
Step 1: Confirm anchor chain diameter, chain grade, stud-link standard, anchor mass, maximum anchoring depth and whether a chain stopper is fitted in the approved anchoring arrangement.
Step 2: Confirm required windlass working load, overload / short-term pull, cable-lifter speed, brake holding requirement, clutch arrangement and gypsy pocket details according to class and vessel design.
Step 3: Confirm mooring rope type, diameter, required drum pull, line speed, stowage length, drum layer basis, rope MBL / LDBF where applicable, and whether the drum is intended for storage, working or both.
Step 4: Confirm whether the single gypsy, drum and warping end require independent clutch / brake control, and provide the intended anchor and mooring operating sequence.
Step 5: Provide electrical supply, motor duty, local / remote control requirement, emergency stops, IP protection, ambient conditions, deck layout, line leads, maintenance clearance and foundation information.
Step 6: Confirm class society, FAT / load-test scope, documentation, coating system, quantity, delivery destination and delivery schedule; provide anchor-arrangement, mooring-arrangement and GA drawings if available.

Anchor Handling, Mooring Drum & Control Engineering
• The cable lifter must match the exact anchor-chain diameter, stud-link geometry and chain grade. A nominal chain diameter alone is insufficient for final gypsy manufacture.
• Windlass working load is not a universal fixed value for a given diameter: chain grade and anchoring depth affect the required anchoring duty. The supplied load table therefore needs to be checked against the project chain and depth.
• The gypsy brake, clutch and chain stopper have different functions. The chain stopper and anchoring arrangement should be coordinated so that long-term anchor-chain loads are not assigned to the windlass brake without an approved basis.
• The mooring drum should be selected by rope type, diameter, required pull, working layer and storage length. Pull at the drum is not the same as mooring-line MBL / LDBF or the brake holding capacity.
• The warping end is for auxiliary rope handling and should not be treated as a rope-storage drum. Its profile, diameter and safe line lead should be confirmed for the intended rope.
• Combined machinery can save deck space, but the foundation must transfer anchor-chain forces, drum rope pull, machine torque, brake reactions and dynamic loads into the deck structure. Foundation loads should come from the approved maker drawing.
• Local and remote controls should be arranged for clear visibility of chain and rope leads and should follow the vessel’s safe-mooring philosophy. Control interlocks should prevent incompatible simultaneous operations where required by the design.
• Factory acceptance testing can be specified for the assembled windlass / winch system. ISO 4857:2023 provides a current international reference for windlass and winch FAT procedures when adopted by the project.

Q1: How is the correct windlass working load selected for a given anchor-chain diameter?
A1: Chain diameter is only one input. The required windlass duty also depends on anchor-chain grade, anchoring depth, anchor mass and the applicable standard / class rule. The supplied series follows a Grade 2 / A2-type load progression and must be checked if the chain grade or anchoring depth changes.
Q2: Does the 20–150 kN mooring pull equal the mooring-line SWL or MBL?
A2: No. It is the drum operating pull stated for this machinery series. Mooring-line MBL / LDBF, line WLL, drum pull, brake holding capacity and the strength of mooring fittings are separate engineering values and must not be mixed.
Q3: What information is required before confirming a single-gypsy single-drum combined unit?
A3: Provide anchor chain size and grade, anchor mass and depth, required anchoring loads and brake basis, rope diameter / construction / length, drum pull and speed, warping-end duty, electrical supply, control philosophy, class society, deck arrangement and foundation constraints.
