A useful precision specification states the actual upper and lower limits and the measurement method. Thickness, width, camber, burr and flatness may each require different sampling rules. A tolerance that is achievable on soft 304 at one width may not be achievable on full-hard 301 at a much narrower width.
The process route also matters. ISO 9445-1 covers continuously cold-rolled narrow strip within its scope, while ISO 9445-2 includes slit wide strip under 600 mm manufactured by longitudinal slitting from wide strip. Identifying the route helps engineering buyers reference the correct dimensional framework.
Tighter is not always better. Over-specifying tolerance can add rolling, slitting, inspection and scrap cost without improving the finished component. Start from the functional requirement of the stamped part or assembly, then set a tolerance that the downstream process actually needs.

1. What is “tight tolerance” stainless strip?
It is strip supplied to narrower agreed dimensional limits than ordinary commercial requirements, with additional inspection and process control as needed.
2. Can you guarantee ±0.005 mm for every thickness?
No. A universal tolerance claim is not technically appropriate; capability depends on gauge, width, grade, temper and process route.
3. Should thickness tolerance be bilateral?
It can be bilateral or another agreed upper/lower limit depending on the drawing and governing standard.
4. Can width tolerance be tighter than normal slit coil?
Yes, subject to slit width, material strength, tooling and edge requirements.
5. What is camber?
Camber is the lateral deviation of strip from a straight path and can affect tracking in stamping or forming lines.
6. Can burr be included in the tolerance plan?
Yes. Burr height and/or burr direction can be specified where relevant.
7. How is tight tolerance inspected?
