Q1: Why use 6-axis robots instead of a 4-axis or 2D-belt transfer system?
Degrees of Freedom. A 4-axis robot is faster in a straight line but cannot "flip" a part. If your part needs to be turned over for a piercing operation or tilted 30° to enter a specific die, only a 6-axis robot provides the "wrist" flexibility required. This eliminates the need for expensive, standalone turnover stations between presses, shortening the overall line length.
Q2: How do you prevent robots from colliding with the press slide during "Continuous Motion"?
We use Interference Zone Predictive Control. The robot controller receives a live feed of the press's crank angle. Using a virtual "Safe Zone" model, the robot begins its entry movement as the slide is still rising (at roughly 270°). If the press speed varies, the robot's trajectory is dynamically adjusted in real-time to maintain a 100mm safety buffer.
Q3: Can 6-axis robots be integrated with older mechanical presses in a tandem layout?
Yes. Our solution includes a Master Line Controller that acts as the "brain" for the whole line. We retrofit older presses with absolute encoders and link them to the robot's PLC via a safety gateway. This "upcycles" traditional mechanical presses into a high-speed, synchronized robotic tandem line.
