How high is HRC58 hardness? What are the advantages compared to base steel rollers?
HRC58 represents a very high hardness level, comparable to high-carbon steel cutting tools. Compared to untreated or simply hardened steel rollers, hard chrome-plated rollers offer: 1) Multiplied wear resistance—no significant wear grooves after long-term use; 2) Rust prevention—especially suitable for humid cooling sections; 3) Smoother surface—reduces friction damage to product surfaces, enhancing product finish quality.
Can the chrome plating peel off? What if the surface gets damaged by a hard object?
High-quality chrome plating features strong adhesion and will not peel off under normal operating conditions. However, if subjected to severe impact from sharp hard objects, localized coating damage may occur. Once damaged, the underlying steel may become exposed and susceptible to rust.
