The W222 compressor is not located in the engine bay or trunk side panel. It is mounted under the chassis, ahead of the right rear wheel arch, inside the rear bumper area. Immediate replacement is not required, but this indicates clear aging symptoms. The W222 system is highly sensitive to compressor pressure build time, with a system limit of 35 seconds. If inflation from minimum to standard height exceeds 38 seconds, this diagnostic code will activate. While the compressor may continue functioning, remaining service life typically ranges from 3-6 months. Use diagnostic tools to measure actual inflation time: if exceeding 45 seconds, replacement within 2 weeks is recommended to prevent sudden protective mode activation during highway operation. Concurrently inspect for slow leaks to prevent premature failure of replacement units.
This is normal operation. The W222 incorporates "parking level control" functionality. When exiting the vehicle, opening the trunk, or when the system detects attitude changes (such as parking on inclines), the compressor automatically engages for brief fine adjustments to maintain vehicle level. Each cycle typically lasts 3-5 seconds with minimum 10-minute intervals between operations. If cycling occurs every 1-2 minutes or continuous operation exceeds 15 seconds, this indicates potential air leaks or faulty pressure switch operation.
