Understanding KU Band Universal Single LNB Technology

Think of a satellite dish as a bucket that collects a very weak signal from space. The LNB is the sophisticated funnel attached to it.

  • KU Band (The Frequency Range): This refers to the specific range of radio frequencies the device is designed to catch, specifically from 10.7 to 12.75 GHz. This is the most common band used for direct-to-home satellite TV services across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
  • Universal (The Switching Standard): A "universal" LNB is designed to cover the entire KU Band spectrum. It does this by having two internal "local oscillators" (LO) to switch between a Low Band (10.7-11.7 GHz) and a High Band (11.7-12.75 GHz).
  • How it switches: Your satellite receiver sends commands up the coaxial cable—a simple 13/18V signal to choose between vertical/horizontal polarization, and a 22 kHz tone to switch between the low and high band. This standard allows it to work with virtually any modern receiver.
  • Single (The Number of Outputs): This simply means the LNB has one coaxial output connector and can therefore feed a signal to only one satellite receiver or one TV tuner at a time.
