​Large Diameter Alumina Ceramic Sleeve for Wear-Resistant Pipe Lining

Large diameter alumina ceramic sleeves are used to protect the internal surface of steel pipelines against abrasive wear.

Unlike a ceramic tile lining assembled from many individual pieces along the pipe circumference, an alumina ceramic sleeve provides a continuous circular ceramic wear surface. This makes it particularly suitable for straight pipe sections where a stable internal bore and full-circumference wear protection are required.

ELACERA manufactures ceramic sleeves according to the customer's pipe dimensions and drawings. Inner diameter, outer diameter, sleeve length and wall thickness can all be customized.

Why Use an Integral Ceramic Sleeve?

In pneumatic conveying and other abrasive material handling systems, wear often develops gradually along the internal wall of the pipe.

An integral alumina ceramic sleeve provides ceramic protection around the complete circumference of the pipeline. Because there are no longitudinal tile joints along the material-flow direction, the internal wear surface can remain relatively continuous.

This structure is particularly useful when the customer needs:

• full-circumference ceramic protection
• a consistent internal diameter
• fewer longitudinal joints inside the pipe
• accurate ceramic alignment between adjacent sections
• customized dimensions to match an existing steel pipe

The final performance still depends on the ceramic dimensions, joint treatment, installation method and actual conveying conditions.

Dimensions Are Made to Match the Pipe

A ceramic sleeve cannot be selected only by nominal pipe diameter.

Before production, we normally need to confirm:

Inner diameter
This determines the finished flow passage after installation.

Outer diameter
This needs to match the available internal space of the steel pipe and the selected installation method.

Sleeve length
The ceramic sleeves are installed section by section along the pipeline.

Wall thickness
Ceramic thickness is selected according to wear conditions, available pipe bore, and project requirements.

For an existing pipeline, the finished internal diameter after ceramic installation should be checked before production. This is especially important when the lining is being added to a pipe with a limited flow area.

Where Ceramic Sleeve Lined Pipes Are Used

Alumina ceramic sleeves are mainly used in straight pipeline sections carrying abrasive powders or particles, such as:

• coal powder
• fly ash
• cement and raw meal
• mineral powder
• silica and other abrasive particles
• lithium battery powder
• other dry bulk materials

Typical industries include cement, power generation, mining, steel, chemical processing, and powder conveying.

For reducers, tees, large transitions, or other irregular fittings, the most suitable ceramic lining structure should be evaluated according to the actual geometry rather than automatically using the same sleeve design.

Installation Details Matter

The ceramic material itself is only one part of a reliable ceramic sleeve-lined pipe.

During assembly, adjacent ceramic sleeves need to remain concentric so that unnecessary internal steps are not created between sections.

The treatment near the pipe ends and flanges is also important. If a metal gap is left exposed between the ceramic lining and the connection area, that position may become a localized wear point.

For this reason, we normally review the complete pipe drawing rather than only quoting the ceramic sleeve dimensions.
