Product introduction

Elacera ceramic-lined hose provides a flexible, wear-resistant connection for fine carbon and other abrasive industrial powders in steel plants. High-alumina ceramic shields the bore from particle wear, while the reinforced rubber body accommodates normal vibration and installation offset. Pressure, temperature, rubber compound, flange details, and electrical requirements are confirmed from the actual conveying data.


Why Full Operating Parameters Matter When Specifying Wear Resistant Hoses

A recent fine-carbon hose enquiry arrived with five useful details: DN50, 10 m length, 10 bar working pressure, maximum 60°C, and fine carbon powder. That is already much better than an enquiry asking only for “a wear-resistant hose.” It is still not enough to release production, because each detail changes another part of the design.


DN50 defines the nominal bore, but the clear ceramic-lined ID must still be agreed. Ten metres affects routing, weight and handling. Ten bar needs to be separated from start-up peaks and test pressure. A 60°C medium narrows the rubber and bonding choices. Fine carbon may be small in particle size, yet it can remain abrasive at conveying velocity and may bring separate site requirements for dust control or electrical continuity.

Small Particles Can Still Produce Serious Wear

Buyers sometimes associate severe abrasion only with large ore or sand. In pneumatic conveying, fine particles repeatedly slide and strike the hose bore at high speed. Wear often becomes visible first after an upstream elbow, at a reducer or on the outside of an installed curve.


The ceramic lining places a hard wear surface in the flow path. The best result still depends on a smooth inlet, correct support, and a curve above the approved minimum radius. A local restriction or a gasket protruding into the bore can disturb the powder stream and create a new wear point.

One Point That Should Never Be Hidden in a Generic Product Claim
Some steel-plant powder systems specify electrical continuity, grounding, flame resistance, or site safety documents. None is automatic; the purchaser should state the requirement and acceptance method in the RFQ.
NBR is chosen for oil resistance, not simply because the medium is carbon powder. Check oil, moisture, additives, outdoor exposure, and nearby chemicals before selecting the rubber compound.

A Complete RFQ for Fine Carbon Powder

· Powder name, particle size, bulk density and any oil or moisture content

· Conveying method and normal material velocity, if available

· Normal pressure, maximum surge and required test pressure

· Normal and maximum operating temperature

· Clear hose ID, overall length and installed routing

Drawing Approval, Testing and Packing

Before production, the approved drawing should show the clear ID, length tolerance, flange drilling, pressure rating, minimum bend radius and any flow-direction mark. Dimensional inspection and visible lining checks are completed against that drawing. Pressure testing and documentation are supplied when included in the purchase specification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is fine carbon powder abrasive enough to justify ceramic lining?
It can be, especially at high velocity or where an ordinary hose repeatedly wears at the same curve or connection. Replacement history is a useful indicator.

Can the hose be designed for 10 bar working pressure?
Ten bar is within some possible constructions, but diameter, surge pressure, temperature, reinforcement and end fittings must be evaluated together.

Is NBR always the correct rubber for carbon powder?
No. NBR is selected mainly for oil resistance. The actual powder composition and surrounding environment determine the rubber choice.

Is anti-static performance standard?
No. Electrical continuity or anti-static performance must be specified, designed and verified as a separate requirement.

What causes leakage around the flange?
Common causes include incorrect drilling, misalignment, gasket problems, uneven bolt tightening, unsupported hose weight or pressure above the rating.
