Automotive piston rod assemblies present a unique welding challenge: the retaining ring must be projection-welded onto the rod with sufficient strength to withstand millions of load cycles in service, yet the heat input and electrode force must be precisely controlled to avoid distorting the precision-ground rod surface. A single over-pressurised weld can scrap a machined rod worth significantly more than the welding operation itself.
This Xinwei MFDC projection welding workstation solves the problem through three integrated systems. The dual-path automatic feeding system independently delivers rods and rings to the welding position. The servo or proportional valve force control system maintains the exact programmed electrode force throughout each weld cycle, compensating for part tolerances. The MFDC power source provides concentrated heat input with minimal spatter, protecting the rod surface finish while ensuring full-strength projection weld nuggets on galvanized and stainless steel materials.
This workstation is purpose-engineered for the projection welding of piston rods to retaining rings in automotive suspension (shock absorbers, struts) and steering system components. The dual-path feeding, precision force control, and MFDC technology directly address the quality and throughput requirements of Tier-1 and Tier-2 automotive suppliers producing these safety-critical assemblies.
