Salt-Resistant ASTM A240 316L Stainless Steel Coil 2B Finish for Construction
ASTM A240 316L stainless steel coil (UNS S31603) is an ultra-low-carbon austenitic alloy containing 2–3% molybdenum, specifically developed to resist pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-bearing environments. The 2B finish is produced by cold rolling, annealing and pickling, yielding a smooth, matte silver-grey surface with low and uniform roughness. Molybdenum is the key differentiator from 304: it stabilizes the passive film in the presence of chlorides, raising the pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) to approximately 24–26 and dramatically extending service life in coastal and de-icing salt exposure. The carbon content is capped at 0.03%, eliminating intergranular corrosion sensitivity after welding and bending. This coil is specified for architectural and structural applications where salt spray, marine atmosphere or industrial pollution would cause 304 to pit and stain.

Salt-resistant 316L 2B coil is used in coastal curtain wall backing, marine railing cladding, seaside roofing and fascia, de-icing salt-exposed bridge parapets, tunnel linings, offshore platform accommodation panels and waterfront building trim.
Molybdenum blocks chloride pitting. 316L withstands salt spray and de-icing chemicals that cause 304 to pit within months. Ultra-low carbon prevents weld decay. No post-weld annealing required, simplifying site fabrication. 2B finish is uniform and coating-ready. Low roughness supports painting, adhesive bonding and laser cutting without surface preparation.
The coil functions as a corrosion-resistant architectural skin and structural substrate, protecting building envelopes from salt-laden air while providing a cleanable, uniform surface for exterior and interior use.
Store indoors or under cover on dry wooden pallets. Cut by laser or plasma; deburr edges. Weld with ER316L filler wire; control interpass temperature below 150°C. Post-weld pickling restores passivation on heat-affected zones.
Prevent iron contamination from carbon steel tools and racks—this causes false rust on 316L surfaces. Do not use hydrochloric acid cleaners. Avoid prolonged contact with chloride-rich media above 60°C.
Standard sizes ship 7–10 days after deposit. Custom slit widths add 5–7 days. Ports: Qingdao, Shanghai, Tianjin.
T/T (30% deposit, balance before shipment) or irrevocable L/C at sight.
PVC film and moisture-proof paper wrap, steel strapping, fumigated wooden pallets. Coil eyes protected with end rings. Labels show grade, size, coil number and weight.
