INTRODUCTION
Silicon carbide, chemical formula for SiC, is made of quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coal coke), wood chips (adding salt for green silicon carbide production) and other raw materials, then smelting in a resistance furnace at high temperature, and it can also be called electrolon sand or refractory sand. Silicon carbide is divided into two kinds: black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, are hexagonal crystal, specific gravity is 3.20~3.25g/cm3, Mohs hardness of silicon carbide is 9.5.
PROPERTIES
Our green silicon carbide is made from a mixture of high-quality raw materials and a small amount of iron oxide. It has a higher purity than black silicon carbide and is more friable, which means it breaks down more easily under pressure, resulting in a sharper cutting edge. Green silicon carbide is ideal for grinding and cutting applications where a sharp and consistent abrasive material is required. It is also an excellent choice for lapping and polishing applications.
APPLICATION
· Power electronics: SiC-based power devices enable higher voltage and temperature operation, improved energy efficiency, and reduced size and weight compared to traditional silicon-based devices.
· Electric vehicles: SiC power devices can be used in electric vehicle inverters, chargers, and DC-DC converters to improve performance and reduce system size and weight.
· Renewable energy: SiC-based power electronics can increase the efficiency of solar inverters and wind turbine power electronics, leading to lower system costs and greater energy production.
· Aerospace: SiC is used in high-temperature structural components, such as turbine blades, due to its excellent mechanical and thermal properties.
· Defense: SiC is used in armor and blast-protection applications due to its high hardness and strength.
