Manual starters are simple, user-friendly devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that controls the opening and closing of contacts to start or stop the motor through mechanical linkages.
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system) to engage the flywheel.
The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel.
