Product Introduce
This tester is designed to evaluate the limited flame spread of vertically oriented flexible materials, primarily used in protective clothing, when exposed to a small flame. This includes single-layer or multi-component fabrics (such as coated fabrics, quilted fabrics, multi-layer fabrics, sandwich fabrics, and similar combinations). Testing is conducted using two procedures: surface ignition (Procedure A) and bottom edge ignition (Procedure B). These procedures simulate the material's behavior after exposure to a specified flame for 10 seconds, measuring indicators such as flame spread, melting, afterflame time, afterglow time, fragment formation, burning fragments, and hole formation. The tester can evaluate the flammability and flame propagation characteristics of textile fabrics and industrial protective materials (such as workwear, protective suits, or protective clothing components), including measuring damage length (calculated by folding and tearing charred areas in the edge ignition procedure). For multi-layer fabrics, each layer or the entire assembly can be tested separately; for single-layer fabrics, both sides can be tested if the two sides have different performance characteristics. This tester is not suitable for environments with limited air supply, exposure to high-intensity heat sources, or materials that exhibit extensive melting, dripping, or shrinkage (such as certain synthetic fibers that severely deform at high temperatures). It mainly targets textiles and flexible materials in the field of protective clothing to ensure their safety performance under small flame exposure, but does not include integrity testing of the entire garment or long-term heat exposure assessment.

Applicable Materials:
This tester is suitable for vertically oriented flexible materials, primarily single-layer or multi-component textile fabrics and their combinations in the protective clothing industry. These include single-layer flame-retardant cotton fabrics (e.g., 100% FR cotton, 200-300 g/m², used in basic welding uniforms), coated fabrics (e.g., flame-retardant coated polyester or nylon fabrics, 0.1-0.5 mm thick, used as outer layers of chemical protective clothing, providing both waterproofing and flame retardancy), quilted fabrics (e.g., stitched multi-layer cotton-aramid blends, such as outer cotton and inner Nomex aramid, used in heat treatment workshop uniforms, with seam spacing of 5-10 cm for enhanced durability), and multi-layer fabrics (e.g., three-layer construction consisting of an outer Kevlar aramid layer (cut-resistant and flame-retardant), a middle FR polyester insulation layer (1-2 mm thick), and an inner Modal or cotton lining (comfortable and breathable), used in firefighter jackets and trousers, with a total thickness of 3-5 mm). mm), sandwich fabrics (e.g., a fire-resistant foam core (such as silicone foam) sandwiched between two layers of molded acrylic fiber fabric, used in petrochemical worker suits to provide thermal insulation and limited flame spread control), and similar combinations (e.g., different fabric layers bonded by weaving, quilting, coating, gluing, or heat pressing, such as aramid-cotton-polyimide composites used in welder coveralls)
