1. Product Overview

Nomay Brown PET High-Temperature Tape is a single-sided masking tape made with brown or amber polyester film and silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive. Common purchasing names include amber polyester masking tape, brown PET silicone tape and polyester powder coating tape.

It is selected for powder coating, oven curing, metal-finishing protection and compatible anodizing or electroplating processes. Slit rolls and custom die-cut masks protect designated surfaces while supporting clear process identification and controlled masking boundaries.

2. Product Construction

Backing: Heat-resistant PET polyester film.
Adhesive: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Adhesive side: Single-sided.
Appearance: Brown or amber; shade and translucency depend on the selected construction.
Formats: Self-wound rolls, liner-backed rolls, narrow strips and custom die-cut masks.

Brown PET and amber polyimide are different materials. Color does not identify the backing or establish temperature performance. This product uses PET and should not be specified as polyimide or gold finger PI tape.

3. Available Specifications

Thickness range: 0.012–0.1 mm; constructions above 0.1 mm can be requested.
Width range: 0.1–1250 mm.
Roll and master-roll length range: 33–3000 m.
Peel adhesion range: 5–1500 g, with test conditions to be confirmed.
Temperature resistance range: 180–220°C, matched to the selected construction and process conditions.
Color: Brown or amber for this product; other colors are supplied as separately identified versions.

The thickness range requires confirmation of whether the quoted value refers to backing film or finished adhesive tape. Finished tape thickness includes the backing and adhesive, excluding any removable release liner.

The peel range is expressed in the supplied g notation. Specimen width, force-unit convention, peel angle, test speed and dwell time must be agreed before values are compared.

Dimensions and performance ranges cover the product family. Not every combination of thickness, width, length and adhesion is available in one construction.

A suitable adhesive grade can support one-piece removal and reduced cleanup after the validated process. Residue performance depends on the surface, heating and removal conditions.

5. Temperature and Exposure Conditions

The available temperature-resistance range is 180–220°C. Select the exact grade using the part temperature, exposure time, heating cycles and removal conditions.

This range does not establish continuous operation at 220°C or a 24-hour exposure capability at 200°C.

Record the actual component temperature where possible, rather than relying only on the oven setting. Include preheating, curing, repeated baking and cooling when evaluating the complete process.

PET film, pigment, primer and silicone adhesive all contribute to finished-tape performance. Bare-film properties must not replace finished-product testing.

6. Powder Coating and Metal-Finishing Applications

Powder-Coating Masking
Protect selected contact faces, assembly locations and areas that must remain uncoated. Confirm powder chemistry, curing profile, coating thickness and removal timing.

Grounding and Electrical-Contact Areas
Use drawing-based masks to keep coating away from designated contact surfaces. Check the exposed surface for residue and verify the finished contact requirements.

Hole and Thread Protection
Tape and die-cut discs can cover suitable hole openings or accessible surfaces. Deep bores and internal threads may require a separate masking plug; flat tape is not a molded plug.

Metal Enclosures and Components
Support masking on appliance housings, automotive parts, battery trays and energy-storage enclosures where the selected PET construction matches the finishing process.

7. Anodizing and Electroplating Selection

Selected constructions may be evaluated for anodizing or electroplating protection.

Provide the bath chemistry, concentration, temperature, immersion time and complete pretreatment sequence. Degreasing, etching, rinsing and sealing steps can affect the tape differently.

Evaluate edge sealing, liquid penetration, adhesive changes and removal after the complete process. General heat resistance does not establish universal acid, alkali or plating-bath resistance.

For demanding geometry or prolonged immersion, assess the actual part and mask design before production use.

8. Application Procedure

Identify the complete masking process and select the required thickness, adhesion, dimensions and format.

Clean and dry the surface. Remove oil, polishing compounds, dust and release agents using a compatible cleaning method.

Apply without excessive stretching. Use uniform pressure along edges and around openings.

Avoid bridging deep recesses or leaving channels that can allow coating or process liquid beneath the mask.

Run a sample through the full process. Inspect edge lifting, shrinkage, coating seepage, tape breakage and adhesive transfer.

Remove at the validated temperature, angle and speed. Check the exposed surface and coating edge before approving production use.

9. Adhesion, Removal and Optional Performance

Peel adhesion depends on adhesive coating, substrate, pressure, dwell time, temperature and test method. Select the adhesion level for both process holding and acceptable removal.

Clean-removal performance must be evaluated after the actual thermal and chemical exposure. Room-temperature removal alone does not establish post-process performance.

Where electrical insulation is required, confirm the finished construction, thickness and dielectric test conditions.

Low-static, controlled-translucency and special release-liner versions may be requested, subject to specification and model confirmation. These are separate options, not automatic properties of brown PET tape.

For downstream bonding or coating sensitive to silicone transfer, state the contamination requirement before selecting a silicone adhesive construction.

10. Comparison and Selection Guide

Brown PET and Other Colored PET Tapes
Choose the color for contrast, process identification and inspection. Matching material and adhesive constructions may share specifications, but color alone does not establish equal performance.

Brown PET and Amber Polyimide Tape
Choose using the confirmed backing material and complete process requirements. Do not substitute one for the other based on appearance.

Thin and Thick PET Constructions
Thinner versions may suit lower masking-edge height and closer conformity. Thicker versions may improve handling where the geometry permits additional thickness.

Rolls and Liner-Backed Die-Cut Masks
Rolls suit continuous edges and variable-length masking. Die-cut masks support repeated shapes and controlled positioning.

11. Handling and Storage

Keep rolls in their original packaging in a clean, dry environment, protected from direct sunlight and contamination. Follow the storage conditions and shelf life confirmed for the selected grade.

Protect exposed adhesive and die-cut edges during handling. Confirm liner release and dispensing requirements for small parts or automated placement.

For long rolls and precision slitting, specify winding, core and packaging requirements before quotation.
