Nomay Amber Polyimide Tape combines translucent amber PI film with silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side. Common names include golden PI tape, brown PI tape and amber polyimide adhesive tape.

Silicone Adhesive

For temporary use, confirm removal behavior on the actual surface. For permanent insulation, evaluate adhesion and electrical performance after aging.

Acrylic Adhesive Alternative
An acrylic version may be appropriate where a different bonding or contamination profile is required. It must not inherit the silicone construction's temperature or peel-adhesion range.

Silicone-Sensitive Processes
Where subsequent coating, bonding or contamination control matters, assess the complete tape and liner. A non-silicone adhesive chemistry alone does not establish that all components and converting steps are silicone-free.

Step 1: Identify the insulation, wrapping, fixation or protection function.

Step 2: Specify the component, bonding substrate, working voltage and service conditions.

Step 3: Confirm backing thickness, finished thickness, width, roll length and any liner or die-cut requirements.

Step 4: Clean and dry the bonding surface using a process compatible with the component.

Step 5: Apply with uniform pressure or controlled winding tension. Use the translucent appearance to check positioning where visible. Avoid wrinkles, trapped air, lifted edges and excessive stretching.

Step 6: Set overlap and layer count according to the assembly's insulation design; do not rely on appearance alone to confirm adequate coverage.

For thin insulation and fixation around selected wires, leads and sensors. Confirm flexibility, overlap, bending, vibration and environmental exposure. It is not automatically a waterproof joint seal.

Component Positioning
For securing selected leads and small components during assembly. The translucent film can assist placement checks where the covered feature remains visible.

PCB Masking
Suitable silicone constructions can also be evaluated for PCB solder masking and gold-contact protection. Confirm flux compatibility, temperature, dwell time and removal performance. For dedicated solder-masking requirements, specify the process when requesting a model.

Custom Die-Cut Insulation
For strips, tabs, rings and shaped adhesive parts supplied to a drawing. Liner-backed adhesive sheets are different from non-adhesive PI film sheets.

  1. Performance and Operating Conditions

Temperature
The 260–300°C range must be matched to a selected model and exposure duration. It does not establish a continuous service rating or insulation-system thermal class.

Electrical Performance
Dielectric strength and breakdown voltage depend on the film grade, backing thickness, adhesive and test conditions. Verify the finished assembly's clearances, overlap, edge protection and working-voltage requirements.

Mechanical Performance
Wrapping applications may require tensile, elongation, bending or puncture evaluation. Avoid excessive tension that could thin, damage or lift the material.

Peel Adhesion
Specify substrate, specimen width, peel angle, speed, dwell time and conditioning. Do not interpret the stated g range as g/25 mm or convert it to N/25 mm without a confirmed test basis.

Chemical Compatibility
Test compatibility with impregnation varnishes, oils, cleaning agents and other process materials using the selected construction.

Aging and Removal
Permanent applications require aging assessment. Temporary applications require removal and residue evaluation. Neither outcome is established by amber color or silicone chemistry alone.
