Customized Steam Turbine Reverse Thrust Pad (Non-Working Pad)
The reverse thrust pad (non-working pad / auxiliary thrust pad) is a core safety component of steam turbine thrust bearing. Its primary function is to cope with abnormal unit conditions and limit rotor axial displacement. Working in coordination with forward thrust pads, it guarantees stable unit operation. Our reverse thrust pads are precisely adapted to complex operating conditions of various steam turbines. With premium materials and precision manufacturing processes, they build a solid safety barrier for turbine units.
Core Functions of Reverse Thrust Pad
Serving as an indispensable "safety guard" within turbine thrust bearing, the reverse thrust pad bears reverse axial thrust generated under abnormal operating conditions and prevents over-limit axial displacement of the rotor. During normal operation, steam force pushes the turbine rotor toward the generator side, with the forward thrust pad (working pad) undertaking the main load.
Under abnormal conditions such as load rejection, sudden load drop, vacuum deterioration or water hammer, the rotor tends to shift toward the turbine front (high-pressure) side. At this moment, the reverse thrust pad takes effect immediately. By forming a wedge-shaped oil film, it restricts axial float within 0.4 mm and prevents collision between stationary and rotating parts, acting as the final line of defense during sudden unit incidents.
Key Differences from Forward Thrust Pad
The main distinctions lie in load direction, service scenarios and structural details:
Aspect
Forward Thrust Pad
Reverse Thrust Pad
Load Direction
Bears axial thrust toward generator side
Withstands thrust toward turbine front side
Service Scenarios
Sustains continuous load during normal operation
Subject to transient load only under special circumstances
Structural Details
Standard segment configuration
Larger number of smaller-size segments
Our Reverse Thrust Pads for Diverse Complex Operating Conditions
The reliability of reverse thrust pads directly determines unit safety under abnormal conditions. Custom-built for various steam turbines, our reverse thrust pads perfectly satisfy complex-condition requirements.
Key Features:
Made of high-quality babbitt alloy
Precision CNC machining for high surface fitting accuracy
Optimized lubrication structure for stable oil-film establishment
Prompt reverse thrust reception and impact buffering
Easy installation with no extra commissioning required
Our reverse thrust pads deliver dependable reverse-thrust protection, cut maintenance costs, and accommodate operation with various load fluctuations and abnormal conditions.
