The double-flap check valve is a critical component for medium flow control in steam turbine systems. Acting like a one-way gate, it guarantees unidirectional medium flow and prevents equipment failures caused by backflow. It plays a vital role in turbine oil systems, water systems and other circuits. Understanding its operating characteristics and maintenance requirements is essential for stable unit operation.
Unidirectional medium flow is critical for steam turbine piping systems. In the lube-oil system, oil backflow may cut off bearing oil supply and result in bearing-pad burnout. In cooling-water circuits, reverse flow impairs cooling performance and may damage pumps.
The double-flap check valve prevents backflow. It opens freely under forward-direction medium pressure; upon reverse-flow tendency, it closes instantly to block reverse flow and protect downstream equipment.
Operation relies on force balance between medium thrust and valve self-weight (or spring force). Two symmetric swing flaps (discs) inside give the valve its "double-flap" name.
Forward-flow medium overcomes flap gravity or spring tension, pushes the two flaps open and creates a passage for fluid. When reverse flow occurs, backward pressure together with flap gravity / spring restoring force drives both flaps to seat tightly against the valve seat and shut off reverse flow. Compared with single-flap check valves, double-flap structure delivers faster closure, tighter sealing and superior resistance to water hammer / oil hammer.
Main housing connecting pipelines and enclosing internal parts. Normally made of pressure-resistant cast iron or cast steel.
Two symmetric swing sealing elements. Wear-resistant alloys for oil service; stainless steel for water service, ensuring wear resistance and sealing performance.
Machined sealing mating surface for discs, providing tight shut-off upon closure.
Pivots the swing discs, enabling smooth opening-closing rotation with good wear resistance.
