| High Light | Multi-turn actuator 4000 Nm torque ,AC380V three phase gate valve actuator ,ISO 5210 IP67 waterproof valve actuator | ||
Gate, globe and penstock valves do not open with a single turn. They demand many stem rotations under heavy thrust. This industrial multi-turn electric actuator delivers 100–4000 Nm of output torque through an ISO 5210 flange, automates rising-stem valves up to DN600, and gives your plant reliable remote control with IP67 waterproof protection.
If your operators still climb to the valve deck and turn handwheels, you are paying for it three times: lost labor hours, inconsistent valve seating, and no visibility for your control room. Rising-stem gate and globe valves require a rotating stem nut driven over many turns, so a quarter-turn device simply cannot do the job. A multi-turn actuator replaces that manual effort with a geared motor that opens and closes the valve at a controlled speed, reports true valve position, and protects the valve from over-torque on every stroke.
Plants automate multi-turn valves for three reasons: to cut manual response time, to interlock critical valves with pumps and safety systems, and to gather position data for maintenance planning. The table below compares four typical operating conditions and shows what happens when a valve is left manual.
| Operating Condition | Typical Pain Point | Risk If Left Unattended | How This Actuator Helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large-diameter gate valves (DN200–DN600) cycled several times per shift | Two operators and 15–30 minutes per operation; inconsistent seating force | Slow process response, valve seat damage from uneven closure | Motorized opening at 18–36 rpm with repeatable seating torque every cycle |
| Remote or SCADA-controlled water and process lines | No position feedback, no interlock with pumps, no fault alarms | Valves left half-open, pump cavitation, undetected failures | Built-in travel and torque limit switches plus optional 4–20 mA position feedback for DCS/SCADA |
| Outdoor valve pits, rainy climates and flood-prone areas | Water ingress into terminal box, condensation, rusted gearing | Electrical failure and seized valve at the worst moment | IP67 double-sealed housing with anti-condensation space heater option |
| Emergency shutdown and power-loss scenarios | No local means to move the valve when power is cut | Process cannot be isolated manually in time | Declutchable handwheel lets one operator take manual control in seconds |
Inside the housing, a three-phase motor drives a worm or planetary reduction stage that multiplies torque and reduces speed. The output of the reduction stage rotates a stem nut, which engages the rising stem of the gate or globe valve. Because the stem is restrained from rotating by the valve bonnet, the rotating stem nut translates the stem linearly, raising or lowering the gate. The number of turns is counted by a travel mechanism, and a torque sensor continuously measures the force transmitted to the stem.
Two independent protection layers stop the actuator at the right moment: mechanical travel limit switches stop the stroke at fully open and fully closed positions, while torque limit switches cut power if the valve seats with excessive force or an obstruction is met. The worm gear set is self-locking, so the valve holds its position even if the motor loses power. A declutchable handwheel, engaged manually through a change lever, allows full local operation during commissioning, maintenance or power failure without turning the motor.
Correct sizing starts with the valve manufacturer's breakaway torque. For gate and globe valves, multiply the required breakaway torque by a safety factor of 1.25–1.5 to cover packing friction, thermal effects and aging. Then confirm the stem diameter and the number of turns from open to closed, because the actuator stem nut and travel counter must match the valve stem. Finally, check the ISO 5210 mounting flange dimension so the actuator bolts directly onto the valve yoke without an adapter.
| Typical Valve Size (PN10/16) | Recommended Torque Class | Suggested Model |
|---|---|---|
| DN50 – DN150 gate/globe valve | 100 – 300 Nm | QW-DMT154-01 |
| DN200 – DN300 gate/globe valve | 600 – 1500 Nm | QW-DMT154-02 |
| DN350 – DN500 gate/globe valve | 2000 – 3000 Nm | QW-DMT154-03 |
| DN500 – DN600 penstock/gate valve | 3000 – 4000 Nm | QW-DMT154-04 |
This multi-turn electric actuator is used wherever rising-stem valves must be operated reliably, repeatedly and remotely.

Start with the valve manufacturer's published breakaway torque for your valve size and pressure class, then multiply by a safety factor of 1.25 to 1.5. This margin covers packing friction, thermal expansion, media deposits and ageing of seats. If the manufacturer data is unavailable, send us the valve type, nominal diameter, pressure rating and stem details, and our engineers will calculate the recommended torque class for you. Choosing an undersized actuator is the most common cause of valve stalls at the seating point, so it is always safer to move one torque class up when the data is uncertain.
Multi-turn actuators rotate a stem nut over many revolutions to move rising-stem valves such as gate, globe and penstock valves. Quarter-turn actuators rotate an output drive 90 degrees to operate ball, butterfly and plug valves. The two types are not interchangeable: a quarter-turn actuator cannot provide the many stem rotations a gate valve needs, while a multi-turn actuator is unnecessary and bulky for a 90-degree ball valve. When selecting, first identify your valve's motion requirement, then match the ISO flange and torque class. If you are unsure, a photo of the valve nameplate is usually enough for our engineers to advise correctly.
Yes, in most cases. Retrofitting requires three checks: the ISO 5210 mounting flange must match your valve yoke, the stem nut bore and keyway must fit the valve stem diameter and thread, and the travel range must cover the number of turns from fully closed to fully open. Our standard mounting kit includes the flange adapter and stem nut options for common valve brands. During retrofit, the valve should be inspected for stem straightness and packing condition. If you provide the valve make, size and stem details, we will confirm compatibility and supply the correct adapter before you order.
Yes. Each actuator is fitted with a declutchable handwheel. When power is lost, the operator pulls the change lever to disengage the motor gearing, and the handwheel drives the valve directly. The worm gear self-locking feature means the valve stays exactly in position until the handwheel is turned, so there is no drift. Once mains power returns, the lever is reset and motor operation resumes. For plants that need automatic fail-safe action, we can discuss DC emergency power or battery backup options, but for most water and process applications the manual override satisfies safety requirements.
Yes. The housing is protected to IP67, meaning it is dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion. All cable entries use double-sealed glands, and cover joints are protected with O-rings. For persistently humid environments such as valve pits near cooling towers or in coastal regions, we recommend the optional anti-condensation space heater, which keeps the internal air temperature above the dew point and prevents moisture from forming on contacts and electronics. For installations that flood regularly, tell us the expected water depth and duration so we can advise on cable routing and breather configuration.
The standard version provides remote open and close control through a DCS or PLC contact, with mechanical travel and torque limit switches for status. For supervisory systems, an optional 4–20 mA position transmitter reports the exact valve opening to the control room, and an optional heater can be added for humid sites. If your plant uses fieldbus control, we also supply actuators prepared for Modbus RTU communication. Tell us your control system type when ordering, and the actuator will be configured and tested to match your signal specification before shipment.
QINWEIYB electric actuators are designed, assembled and 100% load-tested in our ISO 9001 certified factory. Every multi-turn actuator is stroke-tested with a calibrated torque load before packing, and the test report is shipped with the unit. We support buyers through the whole project: free sizing calculation from your valve data, mounting kit selection, installation guidance, and responsive after-sales service with readily available spare parts. Whether you are automating one critical valve or standardizing a whole plant, you deal directly with the manufacturer, not a trading middleman.
