Modified citrus pectin is a small-molecule polysaccharide obtained from natural pectin extracted from citrus peel through processes such as pH, temperature, and enzymatic hydrolysis. Its molecular weight is reduced from 60-300 kDa in natural pectin to below 15 kDa, and its degree of esterification is also significantly reduced, enabling it to be absorbed by the small intestinal epithelium and enter the bloodstream to exert systemic effects.
