Molybdenum-alloyed 316L offers improved corrosion resistance compared with standard 304 in many chloride-bearing environments.

The equal 3-inch legs support symmetrical structural connections. Applications include marine equipment frames, coastal platforms, pump supports, wastewater structures and chemical-plant assemblies.
316L should not be described as universally immune to seawater corrosion. Pitting and crevice risk depend on chloride level, temperature, deposits, surface finish and stagnant zones.
For continuous warm-seawater immersion or severe crevice conditions, duplex or super duplex grades may be more suitable.
Post-weld heat tint and carbon-steel contamination should be removed where corrosion resistance is important. Packing can include waterproof wrapping and wooden separators.
