Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Angle for Offshore Structural Supports
Shaanxi Shangyou Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. supplies duplex 2205 stainless steel angle for offshore modules, marine supports, desalination plants, pulp and paper equipment and chloride-bearing industrial structures.
Duplex 2205 is commonly identified as EN 1.4462 and UNS S32205 or S31803. It combines relatively high mechanical strength with resistance to localized corrosion and chloride stress-corrosion cracking.
Duplex angle availability is more production-route dependent than common 304 angles. Many non-standard sizes are produced by plate forming, welding or laser fusion rather than conventional high-volume hot rolling.

Duplex 2205 can reduce section weight in some designs because of its higher strength, but structural dimensions must be verified by the project engineer rather than converted directly from a 304 or carbon-steel section.
Offshore material selection must consider design temperature, chloride exposure, crevices, weld procedure, heat input, filler metal, ferrite balance and post-fabrication cleaning.
For highly aggressive warm seawater or severe crevice conditions, super duplex 2507 may be required.
Duplex welding requires controlled procedures to maintain a suitable phase balance and avoid detrimental intermetallic precipitation. Fabrication should follow a qualified WPS.
Inspection options include PMI, dimensional checks, dye-penetrant testing, ultrasonic testing where applicable and ferrite measurement by agreed method.
1. Is 2205 stronger than 316L?
It generally has substantially higher proof strength, but final design values depend on the applicable code and product condition.
2. Can 2205 angle be hot rolled?
Some sections may be available, while many sizes are formed or fabricated to order.
3. Is S31803 the same as S32205?
They are related 2205 designations, but the exact grade must be stated and verified on the order.
4. Is 2205 suitable for seawater?
It is used in many chloride environments, but exposure conditions must be assessed.
5. Can you provide ferrite testing?
Yes, when the method and acceptance range are stated.
6. Is PMI enough to confirm duplex quality?
No. PMI verifies alloy chemistry but does not independently confirm microstructure or mechanical properties.
