Unlike recycled SBR, which hardens and cracks after 3‑5 years of direct sun, virgin EPDM rubber contains built‑in UV stabilisers that resist degradation. The elastic layer is built to 4‑6 mm thickness using fine (0.5‑1.0 mm) EPDM granules mixed with a water‑based acrylic binder. Light‑coloured EPDM (grey, beige, light green) reflects up to 30% of solar heat, keeping the surface cooler. The system meets ITF Category 1‑2 (medium‑fast to fast) for competitive play.
